Match Report

SEFC (12) vs Ilmington (1)

28th April 2012

Despite the weather SEFC had a great turnout for the Ilmington fixture. A big thank you goes to the Shipston Junior School Head for letting the Under 8’s utilise the pitch. The starting line-up was Thomas Townsend (nets), Ollie Pinfold and James Hedderman(Defence), Harry Jeavons and William Noyes (Midfield) with Tommy Williams and Robbie Jack (up front).

The game got off to a flying start with Williams bagging his brace within minutes. An excellent short corner from Noyes followed by a fantastic shot from Robbie Jack made it 3-0. Great work from midfield (Noyes and Jeavons) led to another Shipston corner from which Harry Jeavons bagged. Substitutions of Albie Murtagh, Noah Kirkham and new signing (from Wellesbourne) Joby Morris led to further goals. After starting in defence Morris pushed up into midfield towards the latter end of the first half and bagged a goal on his debut. Noyes powered into the Ilmington box to bag his first of the game and Robbie Jack added also. The joy of a 7-0 lead at half-time was saddened when the ref discovered that Thomas Townsend had actually frozen on the spot and had to be collected by his mother.

Despite fine defending other casualties of the cold were Albie, Ollie and James. It was a good job Hilton Tucker turned up at half time to have a great second half despite the odd dodgy handball. Williams bagged another brace to bring his goal tally for the year in excess of 20, the golden boot award for the season beckons. Robbie Jack continued to terrify the Ilmington defence and also bagged a further two goals. Noyes also scored a second half belter.

Harry Jeavons deserves a special mention after volunteering for goal keeping duty in the second half and pulled off a number of fine saves only conceding the one goal. Kirkham also played the majority of the game and had some great touches.

William and Tommy put in great performances, but for me man of the match must go to Robbie Jack for his finest performance in a Shipston shirt. There will be a lot of league games next season and we really hope Robbie will be a key part of that team.

Final score 12 – 1 to SEFC
